Default quick 5.4 questions?

Hey guys,
I recently purchased a 2000 F150 it had been my dads before it was sold and then it was offered to me after the guy who bought it ruined the transmission. The truck has the 5.4 2v and i have been researching about it for a couple weeks and i feel pretty confident in asking a couples questions. First questions is i have heard mention swaping out the 5.4 2v for a navigator 5.4 4v and from what i read is that it has more power from doing so, My question is though does this eliminate the possablity of having the spark plug blow out? also will the mpg be better as a result? I realise this might of been answered in the past but i have searched and have not found a deffinative answer. My other question is the transmission in the truck is toast no forward gears are present only reverse. Is it better to rebuild this transmission or find a low mileage one from a junk yard? Also in case i didn't mention the truck is a 2000 F150 4x4 supercab and it is Bright red. Thanks as always for anyhelp answering these questions!

The bright red ones always have problems. The black ones are the fastest. I assume, and this is just a guess, that u might have to use the engine harness and compiter from the nav, even though they are 5.4, the nav 4v motors have dual overhead cams? I dont think ur 2v harness or ecu will work.

I would get the transmission rebuilt so you know how it's been treated and you can get it regeared at the same time if you want

I dont think you will see a difference in gas mileage with doing the swap, although it will be a fun truck with the dohc navigator motor. I havent heard of these motors having the spark plug issues. Personally, I thing the biggest worry is the 3v heads, but thats my opinion. I have owned 3 vehicles with the triton v8's, two 4.6L's 2v, and one 5.4L 2v, and not had an issue with sparkplugs blowing out. But thats my luck, and some others have had issues. You would need the computer, wiring harness, and maybe a few other goodies from the donating navigator.

As for the transmission, personally I like rebuilding them (not myself lol). At least I know what I am getting. I havent had any luck through junkyard tranny's. It does cost more, but they usually come with more than a one month warranty. (which by me is all you get for a junkyard tranny, could vary by location)

Thanks guys, I ask this question over at another forum and i got treated like i had aggravated the ford gods by asking such questions. any who first and foremost the transmission is the biggest issue that i need to get started on. After it is running and driving then and only then will i start looking into the navigator swap. I was primarly curous as to why the swap should be considered and the benefits of such a swap... Once again thank you guys for replying to my post!

I've seen a plug blow out on an Expedition but I don't think it was a 4v. About the transmission-I'd go rebuit. At least you know what you've got and warranty. Used id risky.
