Default Purchase Opinions?

Hi, I'm new to this part of the forum, been over at the '87-96 section. Anyway, I may be looking at a '99 model Lariat and want some opinions. Things to watch out for with this generation of trucks, what a good price is, ect. I already know the '97-00 5.4 can have spark plug issues, but that's it.

Here's a link to the truck I'm gonna look at.

Thanks.

Looks to be like a good truck. Good price. I could not be happier with my 99 5.4 F150.

Are there any common issues with these trucks other than the 'ejecting' spark plugs?

Rockers rusting out. Kick them, poke them, bang on them. They rust from the inside out, so if you see bubbling paint, it's made it through.
When I bought mine, they said it was surface rust. I proved them wrong by poking my bare finger through.

If it's a southern truck, you should be fine.
Looks like a nice truck for the price. At least from the pictures.

I just saw it's from Indy. Check for rust VERY well.

^^ yep rust on the rockers is a big thing to look out for

it's a pretty good price and the truck looks pretty good, just check the typical stuff, make sure everything runs smooth

I'm used t checking for rust. My '92 as rocker rust too. I'll stab at the backside with my knife to check it. What would be a reasonable speed to take this thing to to "test for vibrations"? I'm guessing the power difference between this truck and my '92 5.0 should be pretty noticeable too, right?

Yes. I have the 5.4 and it's got a lot of power. Definitely more than the 5.0
