It wasn't advice, if you'd have read it correctly you would see that I suggested researching it as that is what they said the manufacturer claimed. READ FIRST, then jump when necessary.

Already have new head bolts so no need to carry on this current conversation. Thanks for the suggestions anyway.

As for todays progress. I was able to get a 1.5-2 hours of work on it today with being rained out at work. Inbetween rain showers and kids playing with my tools as I was working I was able to remove the rest of the intake manifold, and pulled the pass. side exhaust manifold. Was able to get 7 of the 8 nuts/studs out of the drivers side manifold only to be able not to get it out since the egr tube wont loosen off the manifold. I heated the thing red hot with a map torch and it still wouldnt budge. Orriginally thought I would be able to pull the tube attached to the manifold out the side.

In the progress I learned that you need to pull the coil packs before pulling the intake. I ended up braking off the rear 6 coils thinking They would pull up and out with the intake. Lesson learned i suppose.

Those egr tubes can be a PITB to remove. I've seen the tubes break before the nut cracks.

I'm still on the fence about replacing my HG. I know I should do it but the longer I wait, the parts I'll have for the next build since I'm not going to use the 5.4 in the truck currently.

Solo92s10 sorry to get off track on your thread but I was just passing along information that I personally had never heard but found interesting. I know from personal experience that not everyone has a bank full of money and that sometimes saving $50 here or $100 there can help. I do know that generally head bolts are a 1 time use item and as I said found the info interesting and that's why I suggested researching it. I am doing that now to satisfy my own curiosity.

Sxynerd, not a tough guy just irritated by arrogance. For you to presume to tell me what I was doing just shows who or what you might be.

Solo92s10: you may not be interested as you have already purchased new head bolts but I thought I would update you on my findings. As I said before I had no idea this was true I was just passing along info I had heard. The first pic is a copy of an email I sent to the guys at the modular head shop, the second is their reply. Good luck with your project.

I've built dozens of these motors, have worked with and used parts from all of the best modular race shops in the country. (To include MHS, lol.) I'll say it again, never reuse stock head bolts.

Wow, I sincerely wish I had that much knowledge about engines, but never got that far into them. I just drive a truck for a living and when something goes wrong with one of my vehicles I try to learn to fix it myself, if not I have to pay someone and I'd rather learn something.

P.s, I never said reuse the old head bolts and I did confirm the info that I heard. With that we'll call this done.

P.p.s. apologies for the dip**** comment I was irritated.
