proper reading for maf
hey guys hoping you can help me out one more time my 97 with a 4.6 is idling rough and lack of power and shuttering when driving at highway speeds i cleaned my maf and checked my vacum lines and nothing today went to the junkers and got a new maf and no better before i spend the 200 on a new maf i am going to test the two i have now to make sure that the maf is my prob for sure what kind of readings should i get on my ohm meter when testing the maf and would i be better testing it with the truck running or on the bench thanks for all your help if i cant get my old girl fixed soon i am afraid i may have to trade her in for a chev and i hate chevs but they are starting to look good to me lol
It is my understanding that you cannot 'test' maf with a multimeter. All you can do is to see if reading changes as air flow cools off the hot wire.
I don't think you can test it on a bench. You need to put it in the truck. I don't know which wire is output though. I don't have a shop manual.

A MAF readout will give anything from 0-5V depending on how much mass its moving. I have seen people rig up testing lines to measure the voltage readout, ill see if I cant find something on it.
Have you checked your fuel filter?

i have tried unplugging my maf and got alot better low end power (under 20 mph) but at highway speeds it runs like crap i have a new fuel filter in the box ready to go in just waiting for the rain to stop will let you guys know how it goes this weekend
