Default Proper muffler configuration for SI/DO on 2001 SuperCrew

Hey Yall,
I'm new to posting on the forum but have used it many times to research my truck. Anyways, I have a 2001 150 SuperCrew and I am looking to buy a muffler for it but I want to make sure I buy the correct size and configuration. I want to buy a single inlet and dual outlet piece but I don't know if it should be offset or center inlet. I am also 95% sure it is 2.5 inch piping however I just want to make sure. I'm having an exhaust shop bend pipes for it so I am supplying my own. Also I was quoted at $250 for installation and pipes + tips. Is that a fair price in your opinion? I've owned this truck for 13 years and I've never done any exhaust modification so I'm lost. Thanks for the input and I'm sorry if this has already been asked but I could not find it in the search.

As long as you have a v8, the pipe is 2.5". As for offset, if your doing dual out, center is most common, the offset to one side is usually just when replacing factory muffler(less mod needed). For the price, I think 200 seems fair to bend two sides of pipe and weld everything up. I always try and.negotiate a little though. Oh, and welcome to the forum.

$250 is a good deal. Why not let the installer pick out the muffler? Ask the guy what configuration he wants to install, rather than guess. My installer asked me how loud I wanted it, and gave me a bunch of choices. I chose the quietest one because I'm an old fart. Loud pipes are for idiots. Anyway, he chose the inlet/outlet that worked best, and tucked it up nicely in the frame.

Stock is 2.5" si/so. I went with 3" si/so. Light, cheap, reliable, good flow, and, in my case, QUIET. I'm not a fan of dual exhausts - it makes no sense to drop $800 installing true duals, x-pipe, etc on a 10year old truck so it sounds like tired unloved old mustang... with absolutely zero gain in performance.

Agreed but my reasoning for sourcing my own muffler is because I can get a Magnaflow for just over $100 and he was charging double that...doesn't make much sense to me but I guess the installation and pipe cost is good.

If you are near Lafayette check out custom muffler. I had some work done by them in the past and they did a real good job.

Still, you could ask the guy what the best config is - and you order that. He's the expert. He installs mufflers all day every day - and you pick one out of a webpage/forum every 5 years or so.

Seems like a good deal to bend the pipes and tips. I bought a Magnaflow #13288 for $72 of amazon and had my local shop bend my pipes for $175 cause I didn't want tips. I had 2.5" inlet 2.25" outlet on stock muffler but I went up a size to 3" inlet 2.5" outlets and it sounds pretty good on a V6 in my opinion. Check out my album for pictures of the exhaust. I went a little different than out the back or sides.
