Default power steering

I have a F150 2009 and this morning in Ottawa it was minus 30 with humidex. One of my hoses unhooked itself in result of a rusted clamp that let go. I immediately loss power steering and lots of oil was dropping on the snow. After clamping it back and filling it with the proper fluid at the proper level, there is an annoying whining coming out of the pump and I was wondering if the air trapped inside will eventually go away and remove the sound? And if it could damage the pump since its somewhat sucking air?

My D-I-L's Focus does the same thing- it DOES leak- and when it gets low, it will pick up air.
After she refills it, it will still whine and groan until the air works itself out.

Ive offered and offered! its a slow leak, and my son does a pretty good job of keeping it filled, but once in a while...
One of these days it'll let go and i'll get a call...
Then she'll have to take the time to have it fixed!
