So my truck has the 5.4L engine with 240,000 miles on it. I think it is a little tired and low on power.
Those that have the 5.4L, what do you think of the power?
Do you tow? And what? (approx weight)
I'm wondering if the engine (stock) is a weak engine or if mine is just very tired. I'm contemplating an engine swap (same 5.4 but a fresh rebuild).
I do have an option of a high output engine too (235hp stock, 330-370hp with the HO)

I guess it comes down to how much power you want. Are you sure you don't have a problem with ign., fuel, restricted intake or exhaust? I don't really find my 4.6L even too short on power with minor mods.

Try this... New fuel filter, either new injectors or have them cleaned. Clean out the air intake and throttle body, then put in a new filter. Check the COPs, replace the spark plugs and make sure they are properly gapped. After you get that stuff done, do the cat and a new muffler. My buddy has an '01 Scab with a 5.4, basically the same as my truck and it has 279,000 miles. He said my truck with 120,000 miles felt like it had more oooomph than his, so we did everything I listed and it woke up quite a bit. It's also much cheaper than an engine swap, and most of it is normal maintenance that should be done anyways.
