Default Plz help!!! Confused

I was driving my truck when it just like slipped out gear and when I pulled over and tried to move again it was like it just wouldn't go into gear. I put it in 4 wheel drive and it slipped into low range and wouldn't come out even if I tried to disengage it. I drove it for a bit in 4 lo but it was making a bad grinding noise. Does anyone no what the prob might be is it just my transfer case or what ?????

If it went into 4Lo, it may have slid into Neutral since your shift selector needs to be there for 4Lo (if it's an automatic). Have you tried Reverse? Maybe a problem in the column or selector. Grasping at straws here, but I don't know much about that particular area of the truck.

If it's a manual, I have no idea.

My truck is a standard and I have tried reverse but it wouldn't come out. I ended up getting it towed back home and it sat for about a week and when i started it it seems to be outta of 4 wheel and I can kinda move it around but scared to do more damage

Wild guess - master or slave cylinder (or both) gone. Remember I said Wild Guess.

What were you doing before it freewheeled? Did you tow something recently? Did you heat up the clutch someway right before this happened?

Maybe your transfer case, clutch, clutch m/c or the slave have decided to give up. Can you start it in gear or will it try to move when you hit the starter? What's weird is it goes into 4lo. Same size tires all around (being its a 4x4)? Just looking for ways to narrow it down to a sensible answer.

I was coming back from a few hour trip I was just coasting down a hill and when I got to the bottom of the hill and gave it gas it was like it wasn't in gear anymore and just wouldn't go into gear (once I pulled over). I could put it in gear but it was like my clutch was blown an it wasn't engageing. I tried the 4 wheel drive and it worked so I drove the truck about another 20 kms but it was stuck in 4 lo even tho I put it in 4 hi and I could shift gears but it was making a bad grinding noise almost like something broke and was moving around. I got it towed back home and after ut sat for a week I started it up and my 4 wheel drive was unlocked and I could move it ahead and backwards ( just didn't want to move it too much in case I wrecked it more but I backed it in the garage so I no it's not my clutch or fly wheel or anything with my clutch I'm sure.

Wapus...do you have all 4 tires the same exact size? Your transfer case is mechanical level or dash switch style? If its electric shift, then the motor could possibly have a broken gear for engagement. The front differential may have a broken shift engagement fork or bad shift engagement motor. The lines by the battery could be broken (electric shift only). If it is mechanical shift, possibly the transfer case, driveshaft (frt), front differential.

All of this can be possible if the clutch shredded one side of the surface material, or both. Clutch master cylinder, if it let go, and give a no clutch feel. The slave can also, and the line going to the slave could of been damaged??? So many possibilities.

My transfer case is mechanical ni hubs to turn in tho. I'm checking my transfer case cause i'm sure the sound is coming from in there like a gear is broken and messing stuff up. I'm just wondering if I should take it apart cause It will come apart in three pieces, or will everything spring out once I take the front cover off if something is broken inside. It might be easier to see if something is broken or should I just drop the transfer case in one piece and go from there????
