Default plugs

Has any one had a problem with their 5.4 throwing a plug thru the head

I've heard of it happening on a Mustang. The dealer claims that certain aftermarket plugs don't have enough thread to hold tight.

Mines olny done it once but on of my friends has had it happen multiple times I thought I would cross thread the hole when I removed it but it worked fine

Yeah, I have heard the main cause is cross threading the hole. Doesn't help that the back plugs are a pain to get to.

I always put the plug I. As far as I can by hand to ensure that it isn't cross threaded. You should get at least two complete turns by hand before you put the ratchet to it.

The Ford dealership has a procedure for correcting the threads in the cylinder head since it such a common problem. It costs about $200 to get done.
