Default Please Someone Help! T Case Problem!

Hello all, first time here.

Ok ok ok, i got a 1997 ford f150 step side, auto. electric t case shift. about 6 months ago the truck broke down on the side of the road, out of no where the truck's tcase went into "n" no bang nothing broke. sat there on the side of the road, and took of the t case shift motor and used a pair of visegrips and turned the t case back into 2 wheel. Now 6 months later i still can not figure out what is wrong with her! when i took the motor off and i jumped power too it, the motor still turned over. and like this morning, i jumped in the truck and turned the heat up and i guess i hit the 4wd switch over, and now the 4 wheel drive light is on! there is no shift motor on the t case, its not in 4 wheel! has anyone had a simular problem like this? shift motor bad? switch? is there some kind of control module? Please help me, winter months are comming and where im from you need 4wd!!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!

THANK YOU in advance!

Steve

I had a similar problem where mine got stuck in 4hi so i got under the truck and took it out of 4hi so i could drive it. finally one day i was at work (i work at a shop) and decided to bring it in a check if there were any codes. of course there werent because the CEL wasnt on. So i went into the transfer case which is a seperate computer on the truck and it had codes for the shift motor. Cleared those and it fixed. I guess when it malfunctions it must totaly shut it down till you clear those codes. My boss said i probably shifted it in the wrong sequance so it freaked out and set a code.
I would try that. You wont fing the codes in the engine you have to go into the transfer case and they dont set the CEL

You have to have a scanner I dont think a generic one will do it ether. You'll have to take it somewhere and get it scanned. Unless you know someone who has one or access to one.

You might try a auto zone or something like that first some of them do it for free. Make sure you tell them they have to go into the transfer case computer or they wont find anything.
