If you have basic A/C, bet on the blend door, or if you have electronic A/C, possible controller or vac can. Best bets on where to start and look.

All Fords with vacuum HVAC controls default to defrost when vacuum is lost. Check the vacuum harness between the battery and the firewall. Battery corrosion seems to like to chew on the harness there.

If you have EATC which is the digital climate control you need to check your vacuum solenoids located in your control unit. It's most likely bad O-rings. You can fix it with some Teflon tape. There are all kinds of threads on this and a few with great pics. I had the same problem and it took me maybe 30 mins to fix. I just wrapped the O-rings with some tape and bam my vents are working
