Default Plastic Ignition Guard

Anybody know? Can I remove the plastic ignition guard without any consequences? If so does anybody know how to remove it? Screwdriver?

It appears that that piece is an integral part of the ignition lock cylinder.

I want to use a flip key /fob combo and it won't fit in that plastic piece. How integrated is it?

This one to be specific. http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?n...655586&alt=web

Can't open your eBay page. Use a dremel to shave it down. If it works let us know, I'm definitely interested in doing that. All there is a chip in your key. If you can program the aftermarrket flip up, there won't be any issues.

2002 02 Volkswagen Jetta Keyless Entry and Flip Key - 4 Button https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003RAK47O..._4251wb3MTK16W not this one but very similar. The one I got has a 4c chip which is as far as I can tell the chip for our trucks. Programming is the easy part. If you have two working oem keys. I hate to shave it but that might be my only option. I ordered the ebay one and I'll let you know.

Try the Ebay page again. This is the one I have ordered.

Looking like shaving it down may be my only option.

I would go to the junk yard and pull one to shave that way if it breaks or something you still have the original. If I remember correctly the PATs connector plugs into the ignition tumbler so they shouldn't be unique to each vehicle or anything

I then either have to have the other lock re keyed to match my original key or have the PATS reprogrammed to the new key. I think Ill shave the original and if it breaks then Ill worry about having to pay to have the PATS or lock done. Closest pick and pull junkyard is about 2 hours from me. Id just probably order a new lock online for $20. I've seen where people have shaved them before so I don't think it'll be too tough. Just pop out the lock and spend some time lol.
