I did mine on a 1999, 4x4 last year. I remember removing the gear box from the frame and cutting it off. I cant remember why I had to remove the gear box, but it was not a big deal. Besides, I put some new fluid in, which was probably a good thing after 100k miles.

I used a Chiltons book and torqued everything back to spec.

Hope this helps.

Had to cut mine off of my Jeep after breaking a couple of pullers. The heat from cutting it boogered up my seals, and now it leaks.
They are a PITA.

This style puller works the best but is harder to find in local parts stores and costs more than the other style pullers.

^I agree this type of pitman arm pulled will work best. Will have to remove the three bolts for the steering gear. Moving the gear will allow access to get the puller. Will also need a pickle fork for the other end of the pitman arm.
