Can I program a new key from say a 2004+ year f150 in my 2001, or are they different?

Make sure you get the right key blank for your truck. I ordered some on ebay and had a locksmith cut/program them because I got my truck used and only had one key. The locksmith tried to program them and they wouldn't program. The locksmith said they were the wrong ones because they were like 1/4 inch too long and he told me there are like 4 or 5 different key blanks and the one for my truck is a H72PT
