Default parking brake light

purchased my truck used last year, and the parking brake light never comes on when I apply the p. brakes. lately when I'm driving the light will suddenly come on. I wait until I come to a stop and then engage and disengage the p. brake then the light goes off. today I was moving the truck out of the driveway which had some snow and forgot to take the parking brake off and thinking it was the snow, engaged the4wd. went several yards and then when I tried to go in reverse it wouldn't move. I always thought if the parking brake was engaged that the veh. won't move. I also wold like to know if anyone has any idea what the problem may be. thanks

More than likely it's the switch on the parking brake pedal assembly on the kickpanel there, mine works sometimes too, not much of a worry but the switch is there, single wire, easy to swap out if need be.

You can still move your truck when the parking brake is on. It has nothing to do with the disengagement of your transmission. It takes a little more force though.
