Default Paint touchup

I have some smaller areas that are missing paint. (size of 50 cent piece of smaller) So I sanded it, and primed it and sprayed on matching paint. The problem is that you can still tell where the paint was missing as there is an edge going from the non-paint to where the paint wasn't missing.

Any help on how to match this better and get a better result using matching spray paint?

Show us a picture of what you are doing. Usually a body shop will expand the area and feather in the rough edges so that when you respray the area, it blends in better. Also, not knowing the year of your vehicle, paint fades over years and no can of paint will match exactly. NAPA and other auto parts paint stores can mix you a can of spray paint to match your color and can do it almost perfectly, compared to the generic over the counter brands. Hope that helps a bit.

Spread the area and get some 3M rubbing compound to blend the stock paint to the touch-up. After wet-sanding and waxing it shouldn't be noticeable.

I sell PPG paint to bodyshops. The best way to match is to go to an automotive paint store, bring color code and leave a part from the car. Do not buy the cheapest 2 stage paint (it will not have all the toners to make a good match). Omce the paint is made and matched visually, make sure you blend in the color. Don't just paint the area that needs it feather it out until there are no clear lines between original and added colors.
