P0401 trouble code what can cause it

What can cause a p0401 trouble code a recently had the Egr valve replaced before inspection but I don't think that was the cause of the code it comes up from time to time but not often

ok so after read what you guys wrote I need to replace he DPFE SENSOR and clean the throttle body. But what ports might be clogged that I have to clean

Egr ports in the throttle body elbow, common problem for the 4.6L only.

Remove the elbow, flip it over and you'll see two ports, just about plugged or completely plugged. Don't replace the DPFE yet, - you may not need to. I'd do it pretty quick, before you smoke the DPFE and torch the hoses (melt). Then it'll cost yuh. Cleaning is free.

thanks I'll have to give it a try one weekend. I was also thinking of pulling the trigger on the bbk 75 mm throttle body while I I have it disassembled any thoughts?

It's a waste of money, so is a TB spacer. Plus I don't think BBK makes one for the 98. Unless they all the sudden decided to. Look it up in google images, they are the wrong pull for the 98.
