Default P0305 code

Hi there. On Wednesday of this week, I drove my 2001 F150 Supercrew to the mountains to ski (I live in Colorado). The truck drove wonderfully to and from the mountains. I came home and parked it in the garage, and then left again about 30 minutes later. When I started it that time, the engine ran roughly and when I went to take off it struggled with a lack of power. The CEL came on at that time. Eventually, after about 1 mile or so, the engine smoothed out again with no hesitation. I made another stop and when I got back in to leave, the same thing happened. And again after a third stop.

When I got it home, I checked the code and it showed P0305, which is a misfire on cylinder 5. I didn't do anything else until today, when I took the truck for a test drive. No issues whatsoever today. It ran smoothly with no problems.

Does anyone know what would cause a cylinder misfire to occur after the truck has been driven a while, turned off, and then started again shortly after? I know the laundry list of issues it could be - COP, spark plug, bad electrical connection, etc. and I will check those when I have the time.

Thanks for any input you may have.

Terry

Coil has gone bad. Swap with another
Coil and see if the code moves, or replace the coil all together, MC only.

Swap coil, see if misfire moves with it
Is coil boot wet? Leaking manifold gasket into spark well is high on list of common problems, very high. Shorts out when cold, when hot dries up runs ok.

Replace plug with motor craft
Swap injector to other cyl and see if problem moves

Losing any coolant?
Coils usually start as mild misfire at 40 mph under load and hot
