Default P0171 P0174 help please

Please forgive my lack of search in this instance, I don't have any time at all. I'm moving and things are out of control.

Throwing both 0171 and 0174. I did see that it's common to throw both at the same time. Also said the vehicle could run fine as its probably a dirty MAF sensor. However, it is not running fine. .....

I clear the code with my reader and it will run fine like nothing is wrong, then (at idle only so far) it gets to running really rough and the RPM's drop, usually clears up and I clear the code with my reader. Just now in the McDonalds drive through (I know, but I'm moving I'm in a hurry), it straight up died! I panic and turned the key and it fired right up.

So, what I know is that it's intermittent, and it's also probably serious enough to get me in trouble quick. I got to try something, like right now.

Anyone, please?? Any vac leaks I can take a quick peek at? Oh, and sorry, but any pictures or directions are VERY MUCH appreciated.

THanks

Rotted elbow at pcv valve... I just saw that in another thread and took a look and yup I got a hole. I'm going to tape it and pray. I need it to last 2 days, then I can fix it legit.
Wish me luck. I will report back with pictures and such!

Great job finding it. I have read someplace that an old style sparkplug boot works in a pinch. I think the type with the short angle like i have on my 68 cougar.

The same two codes that came with the 4.2 I just bought. A new PCV tube fixed it up. The old tube (126,000 miles) had the elbow repaired in the past with electrical tape, plus a small slit at the other end, and another split at the place where it connected to that intake manifold fitting...A tube could be made up, but the genuine Ford part is $43.40...but you MUST replace the grommet at the same time, because its going to be a problem spot if you don't ($4.99). I had my trusted independent shop do the job, because I'm getting too old to lay on the motor and work "back there"...

Pictures absolutely.

Here's the before (attached). You cannot see the hole, but at the indention there is a hole approximately .100" in diameter. I used electrical tape and so far so good (fingers crossed).

I'm moving today, I hope it doesn't stall on me again. I need 2 days.

***Seems from what I'm reading from you guys this isn't something I'm going to be able to get from Pep Boys or Autozone ?? Also the PCV valve? Please tell me I don't have to go to the dammed Ford dealer

Actually for an air leak .100" is quite big. Compare it to if you were to take 25 sheets of paper and stack them tight. That's about what you'd be looking at and it's pretty big.
