Default P tires instead of lt's ????

Hello, I have a 2000 Lariat 4x4 with LT265/70/17's and would like to know what would happen if I put P265/70/17's on it. I have a chance to buy some for a great price and want to if it is not going to hurt anything. The truck calls for the LT's but as far as I know the LT's are just stronger for carrying loads . My truck is a daily driver and I do not tow anything and do not haul much. I'm guessing it will ride a little softer witht he P's compared to the LT's.

Is it going to hurt anything by using the P's????????

Thanks, John.

If you are not hauling anything it really shouldnt make a difference. I have the passenger tires on my 98 f150 and pulled a 23 foot camper 700 miles round trip and didnt even heat the tires. I am no expert and do not do alot of hauling either but i think that they should work fine. I bought my tires from a salvage yard and havent had a bit of troubles.

I've made about 5 or 6 hour and a half runs for more or less a ton of coal in the bed on P tires. Gonna do it again this coming winter.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do tho, I have 4 LT's on it now and the rears are brand new and the fronts are worn quite a bit. So for this winter I need to either buy 2 new LT's for the front, or buy 4 P's which means I'll have 2 new LT's that I cannot use. I just recently found out that you are not supposed to have 2 different tread types on a 4x4 so all 4 tires need to be the same brand and tread design. The current tires are LT265/70/17 goodyear wrangler at/s and the "good deal" tires are at walmart, they are P265/70/17 goodyear tracker 2, or trekker 2, I forget which.

I'm leaning towards just buying 2 LT's and moving on.

I have run p series and usually get around a year of use. I don't really haul much at all with it and had a lot of trouble with flats when they get half worn. I switched to lt series last october and should get 2 years of use with this set. This is my company truck and have had the same problems with my personal one also. not saying the p series are bad but my tire salesman said it stood for passenger car, don't know for sure. This is just my experience in nc.

I bought my tires end of October last year. My P series tires still look and drive GREAT. And mine are cheap Pep Boys tires...

Oh and my daily drive to work is 40 miles each way. So during winter and when the weather is crap, my convertible stays in the garage and I drive the truck.

not planning on buying new tires for a long while.

Yup 80.00 for 2 Michelin x-terrain tires that still had the nubs on them. I figured that i couldnt beat that and if i had issues with the tires the salvage yard would take them back
