thanks jbrew - when you say disconnect - do you mean disconnect electrically or remove the vent valve altogether?

No problem. Nope no electronic disconnect, that will cause problems. #9 arrow bullseyes the hose connect. That hose has an inline filter that plugs. Actually the arrow points to the filter as well. It's like a plastic cap deal and all right there at the connection.

I did not forget this so I am replacing the fuel tank, both vent valves, fuel pump, and fuel pressure sensor. All are new with a lifetime warranties on every item. I did develop a pin hole in the tank. I patched it with putty, but it annoys me, so I am going to replace it - not cheap.

the question is - when I lightly blow into the tank with my mouth - very low pressure. I get leakage from the vent valves. I am assuming that is normal?

with this leakage, how does the computer give you a small evap leak code? is it based on rate of leakage?

Do you mean canister vent valve? It is normally open. It seals only during EVAP test by computer. IOW, it gets 12V power only during EVAP test. If you want to test it without a scanner, apply 12V to the solenoid and blow/suck.

I had small EVAP leak. I had to replace the purge valve (the one mounted on the firewall next to brake booster). Since you already replaced the vent valve, gas cap, and filler neck, purge valve seems to the the only thing left. As far as I know, this is the first item to be suspected for small leak.

I have not put the tank assembly in yet, but I did check the purge valve on the firewall and electrically it is sound. I will keep you posted.

sorry for such the long delay. I finally got around to putting the tank assembly in today - 5 months later. I also replaced the main rubber line from the fuel filler neck with a molded one. We will see if this gets rid of the CEL. I also replaced the fuel filter. The old tank was very rusty. I mean rusty. I had a few putty patches on the tank so it was definitely time. I will keep you posted if this gets rid of the cel.
