Default Overheating issue

Hi I didnt see any posts that helped so I made one. I have a 97 scab 4.6 and for the past couple weeks while im driving temp gauge will go right up to before the red but than go back down without me doing anything different in my driving. I have plenty of coolant so I dont think that is the problem. I do know that I dont have any heat so maybe that has something to do with it? While on the subject does anyone have any detailed instructions on how to check the blend door and or flush out the heater core. Thanks guys

You can remove it and put it in a pot of water and boil the water to see if it opens. However, for the cost of a thermostat, you might as well just replace it if you're going to go to the trouble of removing it.
