Mine went out this week too! But I pulled it off and found the "chip had backed out so with a bit of soldering and coercion it's back and running again.

It is a loose resistor on the circuit card assembly. Apparently the solder Ford used in our trucks is sub par. It's the same issue as with the odometers, a loose solder joint. All you have to do is re-solder the loose resistor back to the circuit card. Google it, there is a step by step instruction page, just can't remember off the top of my head where. Don not pay Ford to fix it, they'll replace the whole thing and overcharge you. If you can do a decent soldering job you can fix it.

That's the winner! Even though surface mount soldering is delicate, it can be done correctly with patience, and a low power (25W or so) iron. If you don't have one, get one - $25 or so, and less than an hour worth of work, and you're back in business.

Honestly, you can pick up a cheap soldering iron $5.00 at wal-mart to do the job. It's not idea, but works for the short and very minimal amount of soldering you will be doing.
