Overdrive light blinking
today my overdrive light started blinking on my 1998 f150 its not the first time that it did it, the other time was right when i bought but you shut the truck down and turn it right back on it stops. the first time it started doing it it went away in like a day, didnt no if anybody new what it meant? from what i heard it my be the transmission going out but not for sure. any advice would help out alot.
A flashing OD light is like a check engine light for your trans. In my experience it's been the trans failing every time but it could be a sensor. Go get the codes checked and there will be something there, but I'm not sure if the cheap OBDII scanners will find them. Might have to go to someone with a professional scanner.
Thats what i was told to but gettin the codes ran wont be a bad idea.

Not all DTCs make the check engine light come on and transmission specific DTCs will make the OD light flash. You need to be able to read all the codes not just check engine codes.
When you turn the key to on the check engine light should light up for 3-4 seconds then go out, this is the truck proving out the light, which just means it makes sure the light isn't bad.
