Default overdive switch

I have a 98 f150 4.6 automatic with electric 4x4. I can't get my overdrive to shut off when I push the button. I replaced the button and checked all the fuses, but it still doesn't shut off. It shifts fine and works fine, but I need to be able to shut it off when I'm towing. I sure would appreciate some Help with this issue. Thanks

The OD button does not connect to the transmission. It's wired to the PCM. Frequently the wires break where they enter the shifter handle inside the steering column. Sometimes they break inside the insulation and look good, but don't have electrical continuity.

Remove the screws from the underside of the steering column plastic cover. Either fix the wires or replace the shifter handle.

I have everything apart in the garage. I have one sectiong of the shrink tube rubbed away and one wire in that tube is exposed, but not cut in half. I traced it down to where it plugs into something on the lower part of the steering column. I thought maybe that exposed wire was grounding out not letting my switch out of OD but no lucky. Any other ideas?

EDIT: I posted this because i couldn't find the fuse location. I found it on fuse 29 under the dash, 5A fuse was blown.
