Out with the old in with the new
I'm a new guy here looking for some guidance in doing a engine swap in my 1997 Ford truck.
The truck came equipped with a V6 & a 5 speed transmission but I have rebuilt this engine about 7 years ago and it's on it's last leg again.
I really love this old truck,it still has a great rust free body and and everything works but I don't want to spend any more money on that engine..
I would like to swap out the V6 for a V8.
Has anyone done this swap and can you give me any pointers?

I've not done it but I can tell you that it'll be an extensive operation. You'll need the engine, tranny, complete harness, pcm and various other components. Drive shafts will be different and possibly the radiator, cables, hoses, etc also. I'm not saying you can't do it but you'd come out better buying a complete V8 truck and selling your old one to offset the cost.

Basically you need the complete donor truck to strip all the parts from it.
Easier (and probably cheaper and much less hassle) to just sell the v6 and buy a v-8.
Then I would suggest finding a donor 4.2 and replacing the original. I don't believe it to be worth swapping to a V8 in my opinion. Sorry man. Wish I had good news for ya but all I've got is honesty. Good luck bud.
They are right.... It will involve a lot of work. Only way is even start to do it is if I had a complete v8 truck that ran. Maybe you can find one that's been wrecked for cheap. I find them around here pretty regularly for about 800-1000 bucks. But I'd prolly just drop another v6 in her and sell er off to buy a v8 truck. Or 460 swap it hahahahaha (that's a joke)

Right, If you really feel like going thru with a V8 swap, go with a 05 plus 3V V10 swap instead. That engines a beast. It fits! About the same numbers as a lightning engine without the supercharger.
