What does the owner's manual recommend?

The consensus around here seems to be Motorcraft synthetic blend 5W-20.

Most likely 5W-20. Seems like everyone's truck requires that, with the rare exception of 5W-30. Unless you're going to be putting it under a lot of stress or driving in harsh environments, you'll be fine with conventional oil and a Motorcraft filter. I spent about $20 on 6 quarts of Mobil 5000 and a Motorcraft filter.

Stick with motorcraft for sure, 5-w20 is probably best
