Default Oil pressure switch

I just replaced the oil pressure switch on my 4.6 liter 2003 f 150. The problem I had was the pressure gauge goes to high when I turn the switch on. Unplug the sensor and it goes all of the way to nothing. I installed the new one and there is no change. Wiring issue?

Cluster problem.

A normally operating switch causes the gauge to go to mid-scale once pressure is above 4-6 psi.

This one goes full when switch is on and o if I unplug the sensor. Should I go ahead and pull the dash. The idiot light works

See previous answer.

Personally, I wouldn't bother. It's just a mechanical "idiot light" anyway. You do whatever you choose and are comfortable with.

U know you are right, but I would like for it to show something. I don't have any idea what to look for if it's the gage. Probably just install a manual gage

A "manual gauge" would be useless unless you plumbed it in properly.

Good luck.

First off it is not a sensor but a switch which closes when oil pressure is 6-7 psi or higher. The gauge is nothing more than an idiot gauge like an idiot light. If you bought an oil sender, it's used with an actual gauge which will vary with pressure.Ford's use a oil pressure switch, you could have the wrong part.

Probably nothing wrong but you can run your instrument cluster (HEC) test mode and test the gauges. During the test all the gauges should go from zero to pegged and back to zero. If the oil pressure gauge does anything different like stay pegged you probably have a short in the switch wiring.

There's also this option:

Thank you for the information. It does peg as soon as I turn the key on.. that is the reason I replaced it. If I unplug it it drops all of the way down. I thought that would show the wiring was good.
