Oil additives?
Ok, I understand theses trucks are old. I had a valve go down and engine rebuild less than 20k ago. I run 5w30 high mileage in my truck. But if I go to check my oil after say 2k mile I have none on the dip stick. My truck shows no sign of oil burnage or oil leak. But looking for opinions on oil additives.

If you're having issues it is a mechanical issue, possibly from the rebuild, so adding thickeners so the oil is a temporary fix for consumption and is actually worse for the rest of the motor. If it is a sludge or stuck ring issue there are a few additives that can help such as Kreen. Read the entire link below why I hate Lucas, motor honey, etc. They're usually equivalent to a 200wt gear oil and foam terribly.

PCV valve, that's your dog, yup. Replace er and possibly the air filter. Put in 6 qts of 10w40 synthetic and clean er up some. It's not too cold there for it yet. If it's in the 30's perty much just put in 10w30 or even 5w30 synthentic/blend. The lube can help free up a stuck/clogged oil ring. Nothen gonna help a burned piston/cooked compression ring. Also someone didn't get the drain plug sealed, or the filter has the other gasket still stuck to it. 1 lil drip at a time over a couple hundred hours of driving mounts up to empty.

Try running a high mileage oil. It has additives to help the rubber components "swell" up. A PCV valve is a Positive Crankcase Ventalation. It is part of the emissions system and has nothing to do with your oil loss. It sends blowback gases back through the emissions system to be reburned. Sounds like a internal problem. If there is no visable sign of leaks then I would take it back to the guy who rebuilt it. To me it sounds like oil maybe getting pass the piston rings.
