Offset and Backspacing, input please!
I have a 98 4wd im in desperate need of new tires, i decided i want to get new tires and rims. I want to go with a 33 in tire on a 16 possibly a 17 inch rim...i want im looking at 295x75r16 tires.....there really arent many rims out there in 16in i want to go with a more narrow rim to get more of the tire to protect the rim, i do alot of offroading and trail driving. it seems like all of thr 8in wide rims come with a 0 offset and about 5 inch backspace..... does anyone have this setup on their truck? i was looking at some pictures of this set up on the 98 and up to 02 and it almost seemed like the axles of the newer trucks were wider? i would like to have my tires just on the outside of the fenders.would i have to get wheel spacers to compensate for the 0 offset? ive heard wheel spacers arent good for your truck? any input it much appriciated. thank you.
I would not be running spacers if you're doing off-roading. Just asking for trouble. Yes you can usually run them on a pavement princess if you follow directions exactly and don't cheap out but with an off-road rig I wouldn't risk it.
0 offset on a 17x9 wheel with a 305 or 315 will be about flush. I ran 305/70r16s on a 16x10 with -24mm back spacing and it set them just outside the fender. The 97-03 f150s all had the same track width.
Look in the Fitting 35s sticky for some pictures.
