Default Off road recovery!

Well my lift finally will be here on Monday. I have the tires and I am still waiting on wheels from TWF. I am setting my truck up more for offroad recovery than for actual wheeling myself. So I'm thinking of buying a a ladder rack to turn into a place to mount all of my offroad recovery gear. What are your guys thoughts?

Could look cool if done right, not the over the cab kind but just the bed hoops.

That's kind of the direction I have been going with my screw,
I really like my lowrider Fiberglass tonneau cover and being able to lock up all my expensive recovery equipment and keep them from the elements! I'm thinking about making a Pre runner style roof rack but mount it on top of the tonneau cover.

Also I know you have a front mounted winch under/behind your bumper, what about a rear mounted winch?

I think you have a great idea here and should spark some great ideas!

Good idea on the rear winch. Put a full sized spare on a roof rack and use that space for the rear winch, have it exit behind the license plate and hidden when not in use.

yeah i have pondered the roof rack on the tonneau cover too. also thinking about doing something like this 01f1502wd did with his bed cage. http://www.fordraptorforum.com/f42/n...-raptor-19016/ but having the tool box be able to slide to the tailgate under the cover...idk we shall see.

I'm not sure how the tonneau would take the weight and vibration, my moms seems to have a little much flex to mount to. But maybe a roll up cover with a rack that goes over it would work ok, similar to what moody blue has on his truck but with a basket that goes hoop to hoop.

I think it depends on the Fiberglass cover.
I'm 235 pounds and can walk on mine and it feels very solid with little to no flex.

As for mounting it I would do 6 mounting pads (4"x4") with 4 bolts in each and rubber between the steel pad and tonneau and the same size plate on the inside to sandwich the tonneau between.

But wouldn't you have to unload the rack to open the cover or even open the tailgate?

Here's the setup I was talking about, he has tool boxes that fit under the tonneau and the cover rolls up out of the way and the racks can slide up to the front of the bed too do you have a ton of open space if needed. And you can just run a basket across the racks. And there's pics of it in multiple configurations in his album.
