I followed the instructions from the other forum and it fixed my problem immediately. Only took like 30 minutes. I highly suggest doing it if you have the same problem. It was really annoying me.

 

Same flickering on my '99 Ext Cab. Usually okay when it's cold but once started and driven the Odometer fails. Ford's fix is to replace the whole wiring harness for $600. No wonder they didn't need bailout money!

Can the cold solder point be accessed and repaired?

 

Can you tell me which forum that was. It is annoying and I'd try to fix it myself.

This is the site I followed. I suggest using a soldering iron with a fine tip and only using a small amount so you don't bridge anything on accident.
Only problem i found was removing the cluster. actually it's very simple if you know that there is a bolt behind the headlight switch that must be removed.
