Odometer dtc's...question
2 days ago I had the engine light come on at start. I accessed the dtc's on the odometer test and had a couple of codes related to pat's key, which I had just had a second one programmed to the truck. I cleared the codes(batt cable) and then double checked and got dtc-none on the gauge.
I started the truck.....no light.
20 minutes later, I put the honey and baby in truck and start it.....voila...engie light again!!!
Double check the codes on the odometer and it still show's dtc-none????
So obviously my question is..does the odometer show all codes or are they just some codes pertaining to certain aspects of the system???
Just want to double check before, I go and drop $200+ on a scanner
anyone.....????

I'm pretty sure that the cluster only shows codes that are related to the cluster and PATS system.
You don't need a $200+ scanner either. I got mine for $50. Its an Actron scanner that I got at autozone. Its not as fancy as the more expensive ones, but it gives me the codes and thats all I need.

as for the high priced scanner, I really hate to pay so much, but I thought I may as well get a good one with the abs and I should be set for awhile.
I've never seen the Actron's around in my neck of the woods, only the Equus Innova scanners. I was looking at the 3160 and it is only that cheap through Amazon or Ebay
of course, when all is said and done, I suppose all I really need is the code.
It may be part of a bigger problem as I developed a spark knock last week and it is now rather bad, especially on the highway. Not sure if the engine light is related, but I think it certainly could be. The engine light didn't come on till Sunday morning. Also wonder if it could be a be related to a rather long and wet/muddy rut that I took at a rather high speed and it blasted the engine bay with wet crap....this was on the way home Saturday afternoon.
