It is flashing you a code. Count the blinks and tell us the number.

Thanks for the reply! It just blinks, up to 25 and still blinking. Am not finding a remedy for (blinking).

So it is a constant blink?

Does it shift into all 4 gears while in drive? Sometimes if you didn't have the shifter all the way in D (stuck between the 2 an D) then it will blink. You can usually clear it by disconnecting the negative battery cable for several minutes. I had this happen a few times on my old Mountaineer. Only once on my F150 (same transmission though - 4R70W).

If it doesn't go away, you could have an issue with a shift solenoid or EPC valve.

My 2001 F150 5.4 4R70W just recently began flashing the OD light. My OBDII scan tool didn't retrieve any codes. I tried several fixes: transmission & converter flush, clean throttle body, clean MAF. All of these caused my truck to run nicely except it didn't cause the OD light to quit flashing.

The transmission will shift through all gears as normal, but when the OD light flashes, the shifts became hard, especially for the low gears.

I took the truck to our local transmission shop today and they hooked up a NGS scanner and found it had a P1746 code (pressure control solenoid found open). This code will cause the pressure to increase causing the shifts to become hard. This seems to be the exact problems I am suffering. I will be replacing that solenoid and accumulator springs in the very near future. I will let update after this is done.

Thanks kskent for the feedback. I have to admit that I have probably created my on issue. This truck has 286K miles, and I totally believe (if it ain't broke, don't fix it). Well, I dropped the pan, remarkably clean, still had the assembly line dipstick tube plug floating around. Replace the torque converter solenoid and the shift solenoids (A & B), new filter and oil.

In performing this operation, the the plastic circuit board connector connecting all the solenoids had me worried about breakage. All seemed good, so together it went. Now hard shifts and blinking OD OFF light. I believe my original issue of a hard bump on light throttle pressure or slight inclines is corrected. All upshifts are hard to include park to reverse or drive. Thanks again.

FYI - the EPC that I mentioned is the same Pressure Control Valve that kskent spoke of.

EPC = Electronic Pressure Control

Didn't mean to step on toes! The way I read the post from kskent seemed to fit in with what I did while inside my trans, I think I messed up while reinstalling the electrical connector connecting all solenoids together.

Being old school and being 73 years old myself. Its hard to repeat the work that was just performed. Hope you accept my explanation.

No problem Bill, I was just clarifying so you weren't chasing two different things.

I do have a couple of pics of my Expedition trans before it was installed - if that helps at all.....
