Default O2 problems

keep getting the 02 sensor code, P0136 and the other one for the other side. but I cannot get the old ones out. from looking at it they look very corroded. I've sprayed penetrating oil in and tried using a breaker bar to get them out, with the proper size 02 sensor socket and doesn't even budge the sensor at all. how do i get them out, what would a shop charge to do this job. would like to get this fixed asap as I'm getting 10-11 mpg on a stock 4x4. would it be more cost efficient to throw some headers on there and just get all new pipes and high flow cats or not cats at all. let me know what y'all think I should do. thanks

If you want to get them out. Soak them everyday, twice a day in penetrating oil or something of the like. Then on the 7th day, use some strength. Worse can scenario is you snap them off and have to torch them out.

And something like efans would be a way better use of money than a whole new exhaust setup.

You sure those are the correct DTC's ? Both at the same time ?
It's just very unusual.

P0136 Heated O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1, Sensor 2)
P0161 Heated O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2, Sensor 2)

Check the connectors and wiring first. It loops over the trans or transfer case.
You really don't want to get into those unless you have to.
The rears have a tendency to fubar the bung threads coming out no matter what you do.
Yea double check the DTC's.

alright so now getting both codes at the same time P0136 and P0156. haven't since been able to get o2s out, and when i do clear to code they come back within the next day. are there any other ways to get around this issue like deleting the rear cats and getting it tuned for that. and would that bring my mileage back up, I only get 12.5mpg on the highway

I am kind of in the same situation. I had the cats cut off and replaced with straight tubing and the downstream sensor on the passenger side will not come out so I had the guy weld a new bung in front of the old one and cut the wires on the old sensor and installed a new one. No problems on that side. You could have a muffler shop cut out the bung and weld a new bung over that. By the way Amazon has sensors for super cheap if you can wait a couple of days.I have installed minicat O2 simulators on both sides. Then 2 new sensors, but now I am getting P0136 code and I'm gonna start with the easy stuff first, exhaust and vacuum leaks, obvious wiring issues and clean the rust off that bung hole!!! Prior to removing the cats I was getting around 21-22 MPG I am now at 23-24MPG. I am going to work it tonight. I'll keep you posted.(seriously check out amazon for sensors)

The other guys said to soak them in penetrating oil and check the connections. Both are real good ideas before you try to remove them. If the electrical connections are real dirty, this is a good indication of a bad connection. After you have soaked them in oil as previously recommended, apply heat to them and get them real hot. Then go after them with a breaker bar.
