Default Not a normal PCV

I understand in early 2002 Ford did a couple of odd things. I have what does the job of a PCV but it is not a traditional PCV. This appears to be attached to the valve cover from the inside. I have been chasing banks running lean codes for awhile and believe this loose fitting valve may be the culprit. I have replaced PCV's on several vehicles and have never come across one like this. Does anyone have any data on this Piece of Crap Valve? Is it supposed to be loose fitting? I heard someone tried replacing it with a standard PCV, and having the truck run like crap, so that is not an option. I don't mind removing the valve cover if I have to, but just want some feedback on this oddity. I understand after the first couple of months in 2002 Ford went back the the traditional PCV setup. So there are not many of these out there. They also failed to give me a drain plug on my tranny pan, but I can fix that.
