Man i'd look into that fire a little more. There was ford recall for the speed control deactivation switch (I think thats how they put it) that could catch fire. My 00 Ranger had the recall, my dad's 96 F250, and my friend's 00 F150 all had that recall on them so it was pretty widespread.

I had the recall too, but it was wireing under the hood..
