Exclamation No reverse. Need help!

I have a 2002 F150, 4.6L, 4x4. Just had the transmission rebuilt 3k ago. I got stuck in the snow last night and was trying to get out. I had it in 4x4 and was shifting between forward and reverse fairly quickly, although I let the wheels stop before shifting.

About halfway through the reverse died. So long story I got pulled out.

What did I break to cause the reverse to not work? gear selector will go into reverse but truck just revs up. Goes forward in all gears fine..

Thanks

Sounds like you tore reverse gear out of your new tranny.

It all depends on who rebuilt the transmission if they are going to cover it. If you were to go into an average shop and explain what you said I highly doubt they would honor a warranty. Be careful how you explain what you were doing, when it quit working. You admitted that you rocked the truck rapidly from fwd to rvse, which even the owners manuals explain not to do. (JMO though, but I've been in the business for many years, and have been in the warranty department doing claims.)

What you described shouldn't of destroyed a recent rebuilt transmission, going by what you said. Problem is most transmission shops don't replace all the hard parts, just the ones that are out of tollerence. Marginal parts get reused a lot of time. I've seen some tranny's scream and still work, and others, just one small sound and they are toast.

Your description sounds like you might of took out the rear planetary gear. If so, this is an expensive part in these units. You won't know until it is torn down and checked though. Good luck with your situation.
