Yea, they'll just load up...run worse with time. It's a slow kill. Engine can't burn right without the necessary adjustments as pointed out by Bear above. They need a tune or just 1 cat per side.

I realize. You're being too literal. I'm contrasting the two ends so that the OP can see the reality of his situation.

The days of tearing off that "emissions crap" are long past. Doesn't matter if they check emissions or not, the engine's and their control systems are designed to have them in place.

I still like where I ended up - let the kid fix it. It's going to be his anyway.

Not too sure how I am being too literal.... you offered a solution that is way more in depth than correctly fixing it.

But if it makes you feel any better, you win. I'm done beating on this horse.

I disagree. I know of plenty of people who are great with mechanical things and could rip through a carb transplant easily. But get lost on electron fuel injection, or electronic anything. And vice versa, people who know electronics but don't know how a carb works. Depth depends on the person doing the work.

Here's what might actually be an easier option - swap an old carb'ed engine in. Engine swaps are another one those things that seem complicated but are mostly wrenching and fitting mechanical parts, if you're going back to a more primitive engine and engine control. Again, depth depends on the person doing the work. I think that you're projecting your depth on to the OP. I'm just giving options to choose from.

OP you never said what brand of cops you used... care to share what brand? Cheap ones can do more harm than good even if they are new.

I'm not completely computer illiterate. I can do some stuff but don't hav the rite tools to diagnose. And I'm not dum wen It comes to vehicles. I am dum wen it comes to these newer ones tho. Its funny how I can take a 98 car strip it to the bones to make a derby car and it runs fine. But cant figure this truck out
