Ok the transmission seemed to work great along with the engine. Since the 99 transmission wire harness doesn't have the wires I need for the speed sensor can I find the two wires on my plug that I need and cut them on the other side of the plug and run separate wires for the speed sensor?

And yes the code reader does show if ever thing is ready or not it was in a different category they "read codes" I found it a little bit ago and it did make its drive cycle.
Did it complete, or was it not reset? Ie batt cable disconnected or reset with scanner?

Seems odd with no vss

I did have the battery disconnect, I went to something that told me if the o2 sensors and multiple other things where complete or not and everything was complete so I think that means it's been through it's drive cycle.

You could always put the right trans in. I'm confused here. You can't understand why your speed isn't showing when you bought a trans that doesn't have a speed sensor? 97-98 used the speed sensor in the tail shaft. 99 and up just have the hub sensors and diff. I don't think you can make it work.

Your correct I put the speed sensor in the tail shaft from my 97 in to the 99 it worked until i hit something like a stick or rock hard to say but it broke the plug off of the speed sensor, But I had a shift solenoid a code and ended up have like six other codes so I had to change the wire harness from my 97 to the 99 so now like you said the speed sensor in the hub of the 99 I don't have the wires i need to connect my 97 tail shaft speed sensor.
This is hard to explain let me know if you still need more information.

Update I finally got around to adding the wires and plug to my factory side of the plug. Speedometer, trip, and cruise control worked great for about 90 miles going around back roads and little bit of FM roads never going more then 50 mph then I got on the highway set cruise at 70 went 15 miles everything working great. But when I turned off at the exit the speedometer started jumping and OD light started flashing drive back to the house speedometer jumping the whole time and light flashing. Got home killed the truck and checked the plug it wasn't loose and the wires weren't hot, started the truck back up after couple minutes and drove it around it began to jump around but the OD light did not flash this time. Never got a check engine light, and it did not seem to matter if I was using the throttle, brake or just letting the truck roll the speedometer just kept jumping around.

By the way when I connected the new plug and wires, I used the old wires off my 97 wire harness that way I would have same color and gauge wire and I connected them using the heat shrink butt connectors.

Another update I gave it 20 minutes shut off went out for a drive and went 7 miles everything acted normal turned around to go home, on the way back two miles short, so a total of 12 miles the speedometer stared jumping and OD light stared flashing still no check engine light!

Read the code on it. You should have a tranny code.
