Hi all, my name is Dave and i am new to the forum. I just bought a 97 f150 today, it is the 4.6 4x4 and it needs a few things lol. well any ways all that it needs is pretty much cosmetic. i only bought the truck for 1000 bucks, and it has 230k on the clock. truck runs super nice, no smoke, knocks or pings but has a lifter tap on the passenger side pretty bad. i know it's in the valve cover because i pulled the oil cap off and it got really loud. my step father sold me the truck and when he bought it he said it has had that tap since. the ford dealership told him not to worry, it will last forever like that. i told him he was crazy and that could cause damage. can any one tell me how i can fix this tap? its only on the pass. side, oil cap says to use 5w 30 and he uses 10w 40. it also throws a engine code of egr valve but i already know what im going to do there. is it easy to fix this lifter tap? how long will it take and how much $? i have been building old school 5.0 mustangs my whole life but when it comes to over head cams i dunno about that shhhtuff.

Bump, no one knows about this kind of problem? did some reading on the net and 3/4 of the people who have a 97 f150 4.6 have this problem. there is no fix?
