@THEKINGRANCH some people have had luck with solving there engine ping by putting in a high octane gas then switching back to 87 i was having an issue with my engine pinging. i got all the 94 out and now have a full tank of 87 and no more pinging. some people on this forum hahaha

You can get a decent multimeter for under $40.
The PCM doesn't know what a MAF is, it only "sees" voltages/currents coming in on wiring and routes control voltages/currents in response.
The best way to see if the old MAF, the new MAF or wiring is providing the expected inputs the PCM needs to control the engine is to measure the signals.
All 3 may have problems and different combinations may result in different operating symptoms.
