If you're in the salt belt, but with little or no rust on the truck now, there will be a ton of rust after only one winter.
Do everything you can now to protect it. POR15 on exposed areas on/under/around the frame.
Put mudflaps or splash guards on it, minimally.
There are a ton of options for coatings, paint and other tricks to help prolong the life of the body. But, it will in the end be a losing battle here in the northeast... i know.

Good luck with the build. I'm watching to get ideas. I will start my build thread someday. I need to get my 'as bought' photos ready to post and then each modification/update.
Let us know if you like speakers, my truck is totally stock... maybe new tunes someday but my old deaf ears won't appreciate it.

I installed the new Sylvania Ultra bulbs and restored my foggy headlight lenses. MAN, they are SOO much better. Def worth the $55 I spent.
Before:
After(it got dark out, I'll snap a pic of the lights installed tomorrow) :
Tomorrow I plan on doing a little debadging, cleaning the interior, and possibly smoking the tail lights and side markers.
I'm trying to decide on whether to buy a catback exhaust or 2"/4" lowering kit. I think I'm leaning towards lowering it atm.
Any opinions on whether I should do a few performance things to the 4.2 or look for a 5.4? The 4.2 has a decent aftermarket support, but I could probably get a 5.4 for a good price. Decisions decisions.

Thanks for the update on the speakers. I might look for some later on.
I don't know what I have for light bulbs but my lens look fine..
Clear lens
Right now i'm ordering parts needed to fix front calipers from sticking, air filter clamp (which rusted out and broke today) and dry out interior from roof leak. I also might have a leaky windshield, more on the one later.
As for dropping ur truck, go for it. I dropped a 1995 Ranger for my son, years ago, and he loved it.
Always something... I found a used 5.4 from a 2003 for about $250 but I think a rebuild would be needed. Owner said it had a tick so he changed it out for a crate motor. I don't need or want a new motor right now.
