Default A new and better starter option.

For all of us who've dealt with a starter swap on these V8 trucks, you know the pain and frustration of that single top bolt. In the process of fixing my... mistake, it was as good as time as ever to do a starter swap. I personally prefer new parts over reman, and want OEM when possible. Obviously, brand new original Ford starters are a bit difficult to come by, if even possible. There is a new option though. Found out from a friend of mine, I decided to go the same route. A starter from a Coyote motor (I referenced a 2013) is a direct bolt up to these trucks. Despite the nose cone, no modding is needed in any sense. These starters can still be bought brand new from Ford, so a brand new OEM option is available. These starters are smaller, lighter, quieter, and in my opinion, faster. I'm not one to want to do a starter on this motor anytime soon, so having a brand new, non reman OEM option is unbeatable in my book. Puts a lot less worry on quality of the starter I'm using. Here are pics installed on the motor, side by side comparison of the new coyote starter and a reman original from Ford, and part number of the coyote starter. Also a video of the difference in sound of starter. The sound is noticeably different.

Nice! Good to know with the starters....thanks! At one time, I was having problems w/reman's. That's all that was available at the time. I went with NAPA on my last and fortunately got lucky. But it's a roll of the dice w/reman's.

So what's up with the parts washer/intake mistake, something extras hiding in there after the wash ?

Pretty much. That, and some old dried up gunk in the lower plenum. Did a '99 intake swap, since i had to change out the intake gasket anyway. Ran it in the parts washer, and shook it out real hard. Apparently a piece of metal had stuck in that gunk and wouldn't move. Would've had to. Found its way into cylinder 4.

After cab and engine removal, I checked down the lower plenum one more time, and found metal stuck in old gunky oil. Cleaned the devil out of it this time for sure.
