Default Need help quickly

Hello,
though I am new to forum I have visited in the past and just browsed.

Now I am in need of your expertise and knowledge.

I have a 2001 f150 xlt with approx 130,000 on it. Drives exceptionally well and has been relatively inexpensive in the way of repairs. Today I parked at work as I usually do and nothing was out of the ordinary. Upon getting in vehicle to leave I started truck and tried to go into drive but it would not shift from park.

Started and restarted several times without fail. Steering did unlock. I could not get it to drop into reverse or drive.

Any ideas

Just gonna throw this out there... Was your foot on the brake? You have to have your foot on the brake in order to shift out of park and into DRIVE or REVERSE.

But I'm sure this isn't the problem...

I would check and see if you have brake lights. If you do then it's a shift solenoid on the column. If you do not, may have a bad brake switch or broken wire blown fuse. If you pull on the shifter and turn the key to run at the same time should allow it to come out of park. At least you will get it home, then figure out the problem. Brake switch or broken wire at the brake switch would be my guess.

Default answer to dilemma

Believe it or not it was the brake pressure switch at the MC, On a side note I think there was a recall on this and since i bought it used apparently the recall wasn't tended to. I am lucky that the brake fluid didn't ignite and cause a fire which is what was happening from the research i did.
Who would have thought to look at something on the MC to deal with an electrical issue.
