Default Need help please

Hello,

I drive a 2000 F-150 Lariat with a 5.4L V8 in it. I just had a tune up for the truck and its due for oil change in about 800 miles. It just turned 100k yesterday.

I drove the truck to work yesterday and it ran fine all the way there with no problems. I parked it at 3:30 pm and proceeded to work. On my lunch break at 8:30 i fired it up and it made this real loud annoying sound like the truck was a motorcycle or something. I drove it home (which is about 1-2 miles away) and parked it. While at work a buddy of mine (not a mechanic, but knows some about vehicles) listened to it and said he thinks it is a bad rod.

A little more tid bit of info, while on my drive home after about .5 mile i started to smell gas real bad, like a possible leak? I just got this truck from a used dealership and still paying it off. If anyone has an idea what is wrong please let me know your thoughts. If it is a bad rod i am gonna be pissed because i don't have the money for a new engine... im still in college so you know im broke.

oh by the way, the noise starts when i first fire it up, and will stay making the noise rather i accelerate or if i press on the gas to stop. i did notice that it acted? like it wanted to die when i came to a stop as well. the noise is constant.

I know there is a ticking noise some engines make due to leaks with the exhaust...
