I have an 88ford f150 with an EFI 302, I was running low on gas and pulle up at a Gas station and it died at the pump but I didn't think it was that low and just shrugged it off and filled it up, then it wouldn't start and smoke came out from under the hood so I checked it and my silinoid burned up, so I jumped the silinoid with some pliers and drive it down the road to the autozone and replaced the silinoid. It started right up and made it a few blocks and started cutting out and making a popping sound when I tried to give it gas. I replaced the fuel filter and the high pressure pump and it drove a few blocks again until it did then I took it to my shop and when I got it to start smoke came out from under the dash?!?!?

 

You could ask the guys on the 1996 and older forum they might know more
