Default Need help

Heygays/gals, I need help... 2001 5.4L SuperCrew (less than 80K), I don’t use itmuch these days... I never (ever) had issue with starting (turn the key and go),but last few times I had to crank it few times before it fired up… When it’srun’n I get NO computer codes (I’ve checked). Friend of mine thinks it’s a fuelsending unit. How can I be sure? Any help would be appreciated… Thanks

Well I don't think the name calling is appropriate Haha Jk..but on a serious note it could be a couple of things, could be a battery getting ready to crap out or it could be a fuel issue or crank position etc...if it was me I'd get my battery tested first

Could be lots of things. Best way to check is the cheapest to fix first. Depending on how cold it is in your area, that could affect fuel transfer. Gas really won't freeze anywheres in the U.S. , however, bad gas(with water) can make for tough starting, rough running, etc.

Try using some cheap seafoam in the gas tank. Run the current gas you have out, fill to about 1/3 of a tank then put seafoam in, then fill the rest of the way up. Helps atomize the molecules better, cleans injectors, and could help fix some minor issues.

If that doesnt work, and the engine has no symptoms of rough running when started, go to the problem... Fuel lines, fuel pressue, fuel pump, mass air flow sensor's, etc...

Keep us updated.

The crank position sensor tends to get dirty and not give great readings thus effect the start of your truck. They are located behind the A/C compressor so it is hard to get at but it only cost about $25 if you want to change it. You have to take off the fan belt, take out the 4 bolts holding the A/C compressor, move it to the side, remove one bolt holding the crank sensor, disconnect elect connection. and remove. Install new one in reverse order. Try the other stuff above first before trying this and they are more likely the problem.

If it started happening after the battery was replaced, it may be that you have gotten a bad battery. It happens.
