OK, during a 12 hour road trip, my flex plate on my 2000 F-150 7700 w/ 5.4 auto decided it had enough. I am now in the process of trying to seperate the transmission from the engine. HOW do you access the top bolts between the engine and trans? Do I have to remove the intake?
Please, ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

 

I use a 2ft. extension plus another 1ft. Go in from the tail shaft area of the tranny and face the rear of the engine. If you have a impact that makes it even easier.

 

Thanks. Do I have to remove the cross member to let the trans and engine 'tilt down' or can I get at them with the cross member still in?

 

You will have to remove the cross member by securing the tranny on a jack, preferrably a transmission jack. Lowering the transmission slightly will give you more room but I would not because this will put more pressure on the 2 bolts you are trying to remove.
