It could be something to do with the fuel. Like if the fuel filter or fuel lines got clogged your engine would just stall and stay that way until the clog is fixed. Happened to my cousins jeep.

Kill em all
I am assuming that it will at least crank, An engine has to have three things to run, fuel, air and spark. Start by checking for fuel, turn the key on and push down on the pressure relief valve on the fuel rail, looks like a tire valve on the passenger side. Carefull as the pressure is high and fuel will go every where if pressure is good. Then check for spark Pull the easiest COP, put a spark plug in it, DO NOT HOLD ON TO IT WITH YOU BARE HANDS, unless you enjoy that sort of thing lol, put the end of the spark plug near a bare metal area. Have somebody crank it over, you should have spark. If both of those are good, you have a bad sensor. Best thing to do is pull the codes, that way you are not spending a bunch of money changing good stuff, to me thought sounds like either the fuel pump or the mass air flow sensor crapped. Also check the fuel shutoff switch under the glove box, sometimes those go bad.

Anything electrical quit working before the truck quit running? I had a vehicle that before it shut down, the radio quit playing, and heard some other beeping from behind the dash. turned out to be a bad alternator draining the battery then it just died.
When did you look at your resevoir last, has it always been a brownish color, was the fluid inside brownish or just the inside of the jug have the brownish film on the inside?
